About RITUANA
What is RITUANA?
RITUANA is a ceremonial matcha house. We source from specialty tea producers in Japan and offer a small, considered range, each made for the quiet practice of preparing a bowl.
What makes RITUANA different?
We keep to ceremonial matcha, sourced from specialty tea producers in Japan and stone-ground in the traditional way. The range stays small on purpose. What we make, we return to.
How do I contact RITUANA?
Reach us through the contact form on this site. We read each message in turn and reply within a few business days.
The Matcha
What is matcha?
Matcha is finely stone-ground green tea, grown in shade before harvest. Unlike steeped tea, the whole leaf is whisked into water and taken in full.
Where is your matcha sourced from?
Our matcha comes from specialty tea producers in Japan. We work with a small number of growers, chosen for the character of their leaf rather than the size of their harvest.
Is your matcha organic?
Certification varies by selection, and is noted on each product. Where a matcha is not certified organic, it is grown under Japan's agricultural standards, which regulate cultivation closely.
What is "ceremonial grade"? Is RITUANA ceremonial?
"Ceremonial grade" is a Western marketing term, not a regulated standard in Japan. We use it sparingly. Our matcha is suited to traditional preparation—both usucha and koicha—and that is the measure that matters.
Is your matcha tested for safety?
Every batch is reviewed for safety and quality before it reaches you, in keeping with food-safety practice.
How to Prepare
How do I prepare matcha?
Sift one to two grams into a warmed bowl. Add a little water just off the boil, around 175°F, and whisk briskly until a fine foam forms. Top with more water to taste.
What's the ideal water temperature?
Around 175°F, or 80°C. Avoid water at a full boil, which can turn the cup bitter.
What serving size do you recommend?
One gram, about half a teaspoon, for a standard bowl. Two to four grams for a thicker, koicha-style preparation. Adjust to your own taste.
Storage & Shelf Life
How should I store my matcha?
Keep it sealed, away from light, heat, and air, in a cool dry place. Matcha takes on aromas easily, so a closed tin in a cupboard serves it best.
How long does matcha stay fresh after opening?
Matcha is at its best within a month or two of opening. It won't spoil after that, but the colour and aroma soften with time.
What's the unopened shelf life?
About a year from the date it was packed. You'll find the best-before date on the base of each tin.
Orders & Shipping
Where do you ship?
We ship across the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We don't currently ship internationally.
How much does shipping cost?
Within the contiguous United States, shipping is free on orders of fifty dollars and above, and five dollars below that. Alaska and Hawaii ship at fifteen dollars, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands at thirteen. Subscription orders always ship free.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are prepared and shipped within five business days. Some items ship from our own studio and others from a fulfillment partner, so parts of an order may arrive separately. Within the contiguous United States, delivery follows by tracked carrier; Alaska and Hawaii arrive in roughly four to seven business days, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in five to ten.
How do I track my order?
A confirmation with tracking follows each order by email. You can also find it in your account.
My tracking hasn't updated. What should I do?
Tracking can pause for a day or two in transit, especially over weekends, and usually resumes on its own. If it stays still well past the expected delivery window, reach us through the contact form within seven days and we'll look into it with the carrier.
What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?
Please see Returns & Refunds below for how to report it.
Returns & Refunds
What's your return policy?
Due to the perishable nature of ceremonial matcha and our commitment to food safety, all matcha sales are final—whether opened or unopened. Should your order arrive damaged, defective, or incorrect, contact us within seven days of delivery and we'll work with you to make it right.
How do I report a problem with my order?
Reach us through our contact form within seven days of delivery, with a photograph of the affected item. We'll work with you to find the right resolution.
Subscription
How does the subscription work?
Choose your cadence—every four, six, or eight weeks. Your matcha arrives on that schedule, with free shipping within the contiguous United States. You are charged each time an order ships, never in advance.
What discount do I get with a subscription?
Subscription orders receive 15% off, applied to every shipment.
Can I cancel?
Subscriptions begin with a two-order minimum. After your second order has been charged, you may cancel at any time through your account. There is no early-termination fee.
Can I skip a shipment?
Yes. Once your two-order minimum has been met, you may skip any upcoming shipment through your account, up to five days before it ships.
How does cancellation affect billing?
Billing is per shipment—you are charged only when an order ships. Cancelling stops all future shipments; orders already shipped cannot be reversed.
How do I update my payment or shipping details?
Everything is managed through your account portal: payment method, shipping address, cadence, and quantity.
Wholesale & Cafe
Do you offer wholesale?
Yes. You can tell us about your business through the wholesale form on this site, and we'll follow up with details.
What's your minimum order quantity?
Minimums depend on the selection. Share your details through the wholesale form and we'll send terms in return.
